Optical Fiber DTS Systems
Pruett was one of the first companies to bring optical fiber to the oil industry. It was first used in Bakersfield California to monitor temperature observation wells at Kernriver. Since then it has exploded into a primary tool for field surveillance and much more. With DTS you can obtain temperatures along the entire length of the fiber all in real time and at temperatures up to 300 deg C. It has been installed in many types of wells and surface monitoring applications.
With this system, it allows you to make real time decisions and see things you just cant see with a single point logging tool. For example; you can pump cold water into a steam wells and see exactly where the steam is entering the wellbore through a warm back survey. It can be installed in horizontal well by using coil tubing for deployment and get data all the way to the toe of the well in real time. So now you can see which zone is heating up and where your steam is going.
It can be installed on the outside of the casing so now you have a permanent temperate monitoring device and no more surveys or worrying about pulling out a system during a work over.
