Capillary Tubing Pressure Systems
Capillary tubing pressure monitoring systems have been around for many years and are still going strong. The reason, They work. Unlike electronic gauges, capillary has no downhole electronics thus allowing you to run them in extreme conditions like geothermal and steam injection wells. there are systems we have ran into wells that have been running for over 20 years and they are still getting great bottom hole pressures. Many large oil and gas companies are installing them on a regular basis and have been doing so since the early 80's
This system allows for many types of installations configurations, like running them on the tubing string as a semi permanent installation to get bottom hole pressure (BHP) to depths up to 17K feet. Many Geothermal companies rely on this type of system to get pressure from wells that are in excess of 300 deg C with no problems. They can be ran retrievable like a slick line to do gradient's, gas lift optimization, build-ups, fall-offs, and much more.
This system can also be combined with a temperature device such as Thermocouple or Optical Fiber allowing you to get both pressure and temperature at the same time. We have installed combination tubing consisting of 1/4" capillary tubing with a smaller thermocouple tube on the inside. The type of system works very well for high temperature applications where no other electronic device will hold up.
Many systems are installed on Offshore platforms and the data is brought back to one central location and all of the data can be viewed from an office off site.
The options are endless, so if you have some wells that need good reliable data at a reasonable cost, give us a call and lets us discuss how we can serve you.

“This system has a good reliability history, and is used every day by engineering, production, and artificial lift personnel. It can also save us thousands in fluid level work if we had it in every well. This, of course is critical reservoir management data. I use it to optimize wells.
We just give our new folks some basic information and it seems to be enough for them to understand the concept. That’s part of the beauty of it.
Capillary Tubing: Pressure Transmission System (PTS) Advantages
- No Downhole Electronics
- All downhole components are free of electronic parts nothing to get damaged after installation
- Suitable for Harsh Environments
- Temp > 800F
- Corrosives well conditions
- Vibration resistant
- Check System Integrity From Surface
- Transducers and data recording devices can be checked from surface without well intervention
- Chamber integrity can be checked without system retrieval
- Flexible
- System can be installed in many configurations
- Added accuracy with ‘Near Surface Temperature
- Accurate
- Quartz/Piezo Pressure Gauge
- Correction of helium gas column either in real time or post processing
Rugged
The parts can be installed, removed and reran into same or other wells - Long track record
- Easy to Install and Maintain
- The system can be installed and maintained by non-engineered personnel
- Wellhead Penetration Simplicity
- Wellhead exits use standard pressure testable fittings
- Most wellhead companies already have designs for control line exits
- Wellhead penetration is economic
- Splices and Connections
- Splices are done quick and easy with tube to tube pressure testable unions
- Connections are none electronic and only require ferrule type fittings
- Economic Pricing
